Studio Class Terms, Conditions & Liability Waiver

By completing registration / payment online, you understand and agree to the following:
COVID CLAUSES:
  • While we have implemented appropriate cleaning, distancing, and screening measures in accordance with current Hamilton by-law and COVID health requirements, we cannot be responsible or assume liability if you, a family member or child contracts COVID or any other illness as a result of attending.
  • You agree not to bring children who are displaying any signs or symptoms, or do not otherwise meet Health Canada requirements, to the studio.
  • Children who do not pass health screening requirements, test as having a fever/high temperature upon studio entry temperature check, or have been asked to quarantine cannot be permitted to attend in-studio. We cannot provide refunds for such days, however, if available, you may switch to being a hybrid student for only that month ($5+HST) so that your child can still participate from home.
  • If a studio COVID outbreak, instructor illness/positive case, reintroduction of lockdown restrictions, etc. prevents us from holding in-studio classes, classes will become Digital classes, held via Zoom, until we're permitted to return in-studio. In such cases, all registrations will automatically be switched to digital registrations during that time. Our regular refund policies will still apply, meaning that we cannot refund for anything already paid but with 2 weeks' notice, you can de-register and you'll incur NO future charges.
  • Class start times/end times may be delayed slightly due to required disinfecting and cleaning of studio rooms between usages.
CLASS POLICIES:

  1. Behaviour: Keeping a safe, fun, and comfortable class environment for our students is a top priority. Students must follow the instructions of their teacher, and treat all other students with respect. Bullying is not tolerated. Any student who is having behaviour issues that compromise a safe learning environment may be asked to leave or may not be permitted to return to class, without refund.

  2. Clothing: Students must wear appropriate clothing for the dance style they're enrolled in. All clothing must be safe to move in. Students wearing inappropriate or unsafe clothing (pants too long that pose a trip hazard, shoes too big to stay on, etc.) will not be permitted to participate until the clothing situation is rectified.

We know it's an investment, but purchasing the appropriate footwear is important not only for safety but also for an ease in executing movements. Socks are too slippery and barefoot is not recommended.

For Tutus & Tiaras, Tiny Tots, Ballet, and Jazz Classes: A leotard, tights, and ballet slippers or jazz shoes are recommend. Tutus & tiaras are optional but more than welcome! Hair should be pulled away from face in a ponytail or bun.

For Hip-Hop Classes: Casual, comfortable dress (i.e. t-shirt and shorts) is perfect. Indoor running shoes with scuff-free soles are recommended. Hair should be pulled away from face.

For Jazz Funk Classes: A leotard and tights, or leggings and a fitted t-shirt are recommended. Jazz shoes and/or i
ndoor running shoes with scuff-free soles are recommended (although some movements will be harder in running shoes). Hair should be pulled away from face.

For Contemporary Classes: A leotard and tights, or leggings and a fitted t-shirt are recommended. Ballet slippers or foot paws (or similar) are recommended. Hair should be pulled away from face in a ponytail or bun.

For Tap + Jazz Classes: A leotard and tights, or leggings and a fitted t-shirt are recommended. Tap shoes and Jazz OR Ballet shoes are required to be brought to every class (although some classes may not use both pairs of shoes). Hair should be pulled away from face in a ponytail.

Come & Dance With Me Classes: For little ones, a leotard, tights, and ballet slippers are recommend. Tutus & tiaras are optional but more than welcome! Hair should be pulled away from face in a ponytail or bun. For accompanying adults, you can wear comfortable clothing of choice. Footwear can be a dance shoe, an indoor scuff-free running shoe, or socks that have grips on the bottom.

For Combo Classes: Dress according to the dance style you're currently working on in class.

  3. Parents:  Parents must pick up students no more than 5 minutes late. Any students repeatedly picked up late from the studio may incur a charge for after-hour care, particularly if an instructor has to stay back from a class to supervise them. Dreamlight cannot guarantee monitored child pickup. Dreamlight also cannot guarantee space for parents/children to stay inside while waiting for a ride, bus, etc. outside of normal class hours, or even within normal class hours, as if COVID capacity restrictions are in place, parents may be required to drop off/pick up students at the door of the studio to help us adhere to capacity limitations.

  4. Instructors: Students will typically have the same instructor each week, however we cannot guarantee this. Dreamlight reserves the right to substitute or otherwise change instructors if needed. A changing of instructors cannot constitute an exception to our usual cancellation & refund policy. Some classes may have multiple instructors, depending on the setup.

  5. Inclement Weather: In cases of extreme weather (snow or ice storms, etc.) or power outages, that prevent us from safely holding classes in-studio, the classes that week will either be cancelled, which a makeup date arranged later in the season, or they will be held via Zoom instead, depending on the circumstance.

  6. Class Size / Ages: Dreamlight reserves the right to choose how many students to enroll in each class. As a guideline, classes typically have a 10-12 student limit, except for younger age groups, which typically have a limit of 7-8 students. Class ages are guidelines. Younger students with sufficient experience or older students with less experience may be permitted to join a certain class, at Dreamlight's discretion.

  7. Recital: Participation in the studio's year-end Recital is always optional. Those who do wish to participate will not be required to pay any kind of participation fee. The only charge to participate would be the recital costume plus any tickets you desire to purchase (typically $10+HST per ticket; dancers themselves don't need tickets). 2026 Recital date, venue, costume pricing, etc. will be announced by January 31, 2026, with costume fees due February 2026 for any student wishing to participate in the recital.

REGISTRATION, PAYMENT & REFUND POLICY:

  1. All payments made are non-refundable, even if the student is unable to attend classes that fall within that payment period, regardless of the reason, or is requested to leave the class due to a display of unsafe/threatening behaviour towards an instructor or another student. Please understand that in order for Dreamlight to provide classes at an affordable rate, we cannot make exceptions to this or any other payment policy.

  2. If a monthly installment option or a semester installment option was selected upon registration, students may discontinue at any time throughout the season. While anything paid up until that point cannot be refunded, as long as two weeks' notice prior to the start of a new month has been given, no future installment payments will be due.

  3. If a payment is two weeks late, including due to a declined credit card or bounced cheque not rectified in time, a $5+HST late fee will automatically be charged to the account on the 15th of the month. Dreamlight is not responsible for reminding parents of upcoming late charges or repeatedly declined payments. If a payment is more than 3 weeks late, the student may be denied admission into classes at Dreamlight's discretion, and their space in the class can no longer be guaranteed. No student is permitted to participate in the recital if their account has any outstanding payments still owing.

  4. Each month must be paid in its entirety, even if the student is unable to attend one or more weeks. Makeup classes cannot be offered for missed weeks due to class size capacity limits. Dreamlight doesn’t hold classes on stat. holidays/breaks. By registering, you confirm that you understand the monthly price is the same regardless of how many classes fall in a month (2, 3, 4, or 5; most will have 4), as the monthly price is actually based on the cost of the full dance year divided into equal payments for easier budgeting. Classes with fewer class weeks due to holidays (such as Monday classes with Thanksgiving, Family Day, etc.) have already been priced according to these missed weeks.

  5. Should myself/my child wish to change classes, transfer of prepaid funds is at Dreamlight’s discretion, is not guaranteed, is based on availability/time of dance season and is subject to a $20+HST transfer fee.

  6. Dreamlight may cancel group classes at any point in the season at its discretion, including for reasons such as low enrollment. If a group class cancellation occurs, I will be notified & refunded for any paid for classes that have yet to occur.

  7. For occasional private lessons and room rentals/participants: I understand that fee is due upon booking and once it is made, it is non-refundable/non-transferrable to another date/time for any reason.

  8. Dreamlight reserves the right to adjust lesson pricing at anytime. If an adjustment is required mid-season (this has never happened before, ever, but just in case!), we would provide a minimum of 1 month's notice and students would be given the option to discontinue at the time of the price adjustment.

GENERAL LIABILITY WAIVER:

I understand & agree that when participating in dance, fitness, acting, theatre, or any activities included within classes, camps, rehearsals, recitals, or the like, there is a possibility of physical injury or death. I voluntarily agree to assume all risks & responsibility for any such injury or accident which might occur to me/my child during any Dreamlight Studio classes, camps, rehearsals, recitals, performances, activities, fundraisers, photo days, or the like. I also exempt, release & indemnify Dreamlight Studio, its owners, agents, volunteers, assistants, employees, guest artists, faculty members, contractors, instructors, parents and/or students from any & all liability claims, demands, or causes of action whatsoever from any damage, loss, injury or death to me, my children, or property which may arise out of or in connection with participation in any classes or activities conducted at Dreamlight Studio. I further hereby voluntarily agree to waive my rights & those of my heirs & assigns to hold Dreamlight Studio, or anyone connected to the studio as mentioned above, liable for such damage, loss, injury, or death, including if any such occurrences come as a result of a failure to follow studio rules or listen to instruction given by staff, etc.

I understand that due to the nature of dance instruction, some physical contact/touch between the instructor & students may be required at the instructor’s discretion (to correct posture, arm positions, etc.). If I do not wish for the instructor to make any physical contact with myself/my child, I understand it my responsibility to inform the instructor of this prior to my beginning lessons.

I understand that I should be aware of my/my child’s physical limitations & agree not to exceed them & to inform the instructors of them as appropriate for safety. While Dreamlight strives to keep food allergens out of the studio area, Dreamlight cannot guarantee or assume liability if students come into contact with their allergen, as Dreamlight is a public space.

I grant permission to Dreamlight to use photos or videos my child in class, recitals, etc. for archive or publicity purposes including, but not limited to, website promos, recital videos, social media & print ads, without compensation.

By completing online registration, I acknowledge that I have read, understood & agree to be bound by the above statements. If I am agreeing to this waiver for a minor, I certify that I am the parent/guardian & have the authority to waive these rights.

Thank you for your understanding as we work hard to keep dance safe and accessible to all! We can't wait to see you soon!
